cozy country cottage
This beautiful 3600 square foot home located in Ridgefield was overdue for an interior refresh. The house, gardens and pool area were meticulously maintained as was the beautifully curated collection of family antiques passed down through generations. The initial project included the redesign and decoration of the entry foyer, living, dining and family rooms, primary suite, powder room, two home offices, two guest bedrooms and solarium.
Our client was interested in updating their surroundings while using the majority of their existing furniture. With minor but visually significant architectural changes we simplified the look in the living and dining rooms by removing dated decorative columns, chair railing, redesigned the fireplace surround and added recessed down lighting to brighten the interior. Some of the existing furniture was relocated to other areas in the home but the majority was reused, all of the existing soft furnishings were reupholstered, modernizing details, a custom cocktail table and decorative stool, custom flat weave area rugs and drapery were installed, new decorative lighting and accessories were added to enhance the design. The first floor powder room was gutted and redesigned, as was the primary bedroom two story ceiling.

A Refresh with Lasting Warmth
This Ridgefield cottage project was more than an update; it was a transformation that honored treasured family elements while bringing fresh life and clarity to the home. By simplifying architectural details and introducing carefully selected finishes, Rachel enhanced the sense of space and light throughout the main living areas without erasing the charm that made this home meaningful.
Balancing Tradition and Everyday Living
Rather than starting from scratch, this design reinforced what was already working: heirloom furniture, family pieces, and rich memories. Reupholstering existing furnishings and combining them with custom pieces ensured a cohesive look that feels rooted yet refreshed. Thoughtful adjustments — from removing dated columns to redesigning the fireplace surround — opened up sightlines and made movement feel more intuitive.
Layered Comfort in Every Room
The palette and materials chosen (soft neutrals, layered textiles, and tactile finishes) bring warmth without fuss, encouraging both quiet evenings and lively gatherings. Custom-made flat-weave rugs, tailored drapery, and carefully scaled lighting elevate comfort while maintaining crisp visual flow. Rooms feel curated, not contrived: calm, welcoming spaces where life happens naturally.
A Home That Feels Whole
In the primary bedroom, powder room, offices, and gathering spaces alike, each decision supported how the family actually lives. The result is a home that feels cohesive and complete; warm enough for daily routines, refined enough for celebration, and intentional enough to make every corner feel like it belongs.
